"2022 was supposed to be the year of my success. I finished a new series of paintings, prepared for several exhibitions, my daughter made me happy with her success in kindergarten, but one day at 5:30 in the morning my husband woke me up. He held a frightened child in his arms and said with a dead voice: "Let's hide, the war has begun." Then there were explosions, a huge number of explosions, constant sirens, 11 days of life in a tiny bathroom - 1.5 square meters, where I sat, my husband, a child and our two dogs. My daughter slept right in the bathroom in a pile of pillows, and my husband and I slept sitting on the floor. Although there was no sleep ... and still not, we were then forced to drop everything and run away from Kyiv. To fit in the car, we could not take most things. One bag for all of us. Our whole life in one backpack.
My bird in the painting looks at how the sky, which until recently was blue, is covered with black smoke.
Near the bird in the painting there is a poem: 'Love your Ukraine as a sun, as a wind, as grass, as rivers.'" ~Daria Zaseda
