Shaney Watters is a contemporary mixed-media artist based in Southern California whose playful animal portraits blend abstraction with realism. Shaped by a global childhood that included a formative, long-term stay in the Netherlands, Watters developed a deep curiosity about human identity that later led her to a career as a licensed therapist. Today, she channels her profound understanding of the human psyche into her art, amplifying relatable, raw emotions within her animal subjects to invite viewers into a humorous and soulful self-reflection. Unbound by tradition, Watters builds her paintings through a dynamic, multi-layered conversation of graphite, acrylic, oil, cold wax, and 18k gold leaf.
