"'In the Moment'" was inspired by the striking Joshua Tree. When visiting California for the first time last year I was fascinated with all of the stunning trees. Being from Canada we don’t see trees with unique branches and bayonet shaped leaves." ~Erin Brekke Conn
In the moment
Natural captures my heart
The Joshua Tree
Holds my attention
Opens through the leaves Magically sparkle
Evoking a feeling
Never will I forget
Time stands still
Artist Erin Conn is most well known for her stunning paintings of trees, wildlife, and unique landscapes.
Conn’s art may take on an otherworldly appearance or may even embody a distinctive, almost human personality. There is a great variety of ways that she explores the nature motif, varying the depth of field, texture, and palette. Her most dazzling works employ the application of pointillism, where thousands upon thousands of raised dots adorn the surface. “My art captures all the beauty nature embodies, with a unique twist,” she states.
Conn’s work has been featured in popular magazines, including 2 front covers of AirdrieLIFE Magazine and three 30′ murals at BC Children’s Hospital. 2017 has been a successful year for her as she was awarded the Professional Artist Award for the Mayor’s Night of The Arts. Erin was also a selected artist for the 2018 Artist Ranch Project, where she will be creating 20 paintings for the Calgary Stampede. She has completed hundreds of commissioned pieces in addition to exhibiting in Canada, Italy and the United States. She lives and works in Airdrie, Canada.
Adelman Fine Art is pleased to represent Erin Conn and share her talent with collectors worldwide.
Q & A Interview with EBC:
AFA: What or who influenced you to begin creating art?
EBC: “I would most definitely say my grandmother June was my biggest influence to want to create art. I remember looking at her paintings in awe. She only painted as a hobby but her natural talent was undeniable.”
AFA: What song best describes your work ethic?
EBC: “Work” by Rihanna
AFA: A lot of people point out the pointillism style of your work and some people think it looks aboriginal. How do you explain your style?
EBC: “Looking back at my artwork even as a child the dots were always present. As I pursued art more seriously the dots then multiplied more and more each year. I guess I would describe my work as “whimsical energy” or perhaps a “modern twist on the traditional pointillism.”
AFA: Grab the book closest to you – go to page 58 line 6 and what does it say?
EBC: “I love this! The book closest to me is The Gifts Of Imperfection, by Brene Brown. ‘Perfectionism may only emerge when they’re feeling particularly vulnerable.'”
AFA: Please describe how you feel when you are painting.
EBC: “When I’m painting I feel calm and exhilarated at the same time. When I add the detail to my work it’s a form of mediation for me.”
AFA: If you were written about in the newspaper, on the front page, what would the headline say?
EBC: “What I would want it to say would be ‘Local Artist sells painting for 30k’, haha.”
AFA: What are the last 3 charges on your credit card?
EBC: “Netflix, Inglewood Art Supply, Sephora.”
AFA: How did you enjoy your first trip to San Diego?
EBC: “My first visit to San Diego was one of the best trips I’ve ever had! Getting to experience it with my Mom was extra special as she had also never been. The weather was perfection, the scenery is breathtaking and the best part was meeting you all at Adelman. Can’t wait to come back, hopefully this year.”
AFA: What artisan skill would you like to learn and why?
EBC: “I would most want to learn the art of sculpting. I love getting my hands dirty and molding my ideas into something three dimensional would be very cool.”
EBC: “This is such a difficult question! The Floral & Fauna collection is so vibrant and full of such extraordinary works of art. If I had to choose one it would be “Ariel Roots I”by Jennifer Hannaford….”Spring Walk” by Misun Holdorf…. “Queen River” by Aubrey Ashburn….”Shake Your Palm Palm” by Monique Straub”….”Gentle Breeze” by Ellen Dieter….”Incandescent”by Aiden Kringen… “Spoken” by Jeannine Emmett….”The World In Our Grasp” by Stephanie Bales… “Golden Rain” by Diana Carey…” Why Not” petite series III by Katya Saab and absolutely any piece by the exceptional Iris Scott!!! Ok I can’t choose just one!”
