Artwork Story
Jon went out specifically to shoot the little sea birds that frequent the San Diego coastline. After shooting for a while and capturing several fun images of the little birds he began to notice something. When the little birds walked at the exact right distance from the receding waves they left cute little footprints. As the cliché of a light bulb turning on in someone's head goes, at that moment, the idea of "Follow Me" was born. Jon always respects nature so he kept his distance from the little guys but given the opportunity he began to try to capture the perfect composition to capture this amazing phenomenon. If the sand was too wet the prints were blurry and would disappear very quickly. If it was too dry no footprints at all were left behind. But, when the sand had the perfect amount of saturation, the prints were beautiful and distinct. The next part of the challenge was too capture this at sunset and with the bird still in the image. As you can see in his award winning image, "Follow Me," he captured both and achieved his vision. The little bird can be seen about two thirds of the way to the top of the image.
