Chakra Pride

"'Rainbow Bridge' and 'Chakra Pride' are part of a larger set of paintings from my 'Open Wounds' collection called 'Dad, I'm Coming Home.' For me personally, the set dives head first into my father's suicide and juxtaposes neutral and desaturated backgrounds with bold and bright foregrounds that span a spectrum of saturation, reflecting upon me finding myself in the darkness. On a parallel level, I wanted to create something to honor our LGBTQ community during Pride week in San Diego, specifically shining a light on their respective journeys to finding their colors, whatever they may be, in the darkness." ~ Michael Carini
