"As every story has a past, present, and future, what may at first glimpse appear to be non-objective abstraction is in fact segmentations of energetic imagery interacting and breathing through the boundlessness of space and time. This painting depicts wings sprouting from the wounds of an angel. Sometimes it is only through our wounds that we are able to open ourselves up to healing so we may fly.
Fun little backstory on this painting. I live painted this piece at the La Jolla Art & Wine Festival several years back. Feeling like the painting was going very well, I suddenly hit a wall where I felt I "messed up" and ruined my creation that had started off so well. I felt crushed. Anxiety kicked in and I had a meltdown. Then something amazing happened. From that purity of that raw moment emerged unexpected beauty. It was the opening of that wound, literally and metaphorically, that ultimately led to this painting becoming what it is. Without that struggle, without that anxiety, without that moment of losing myself in the chaos, what now is would have been lost...or never emerged. Embrace the struggle and the beauty that can grow from it...the wings that can grow from your wounds. Your beauty lies in the scars...not the illusion of perfection.
This painting was the catalyst for my current top selling "Open Wounds" collection." ~ Michael Carini
