Ablution

With the subtlety of flame, Shima Shanti paints visions of Peace. Every brushstroke and pass of the low-flame torch is a quiet whisper to the authenticity and integrity of her work, marking it distinctively Shima.

Shima holds a special reverence for the ancient-yet-contemporary art form of Encaustic. Nature’s rhythmic fluidity and steadfast consistency guides her. Layer upon layer of translucent beeswax are marked by the understated elegance and refined grace of the artist’s hand. 

There is a reverence for the unseen details in this intricate and labor-intensive process. Levels of complexity surface in the simplicity of her earth-toned palette and distilled composition.  As her painting slowly comes together the revelation is mystical, storied, and luminous. 

Shima’s inspiration is borne from growing up in the abundance of water and endless big sky of Montana. This has forever connected her to Nature and gifted her with an innate sense of Peace. Her artwork alludes to a Spiritual mysticism that lies beyond appearance when one is free of perception. 

Today, in the lakeside hamlet near San Diego, the timeless joy of lost hours in the studio and the simple pleasure of outdoors, balance the business demands and travel of her artist career.
