Q & A Interview
Ice Breakers:
AFA: If you could be any animal in the world, which animal would you choose?
RF: Mountain goat. Mountain goats live in high altitude and always have a beautiful view of the landscape. I have always wanted to be a skilled rock climber, and I am NOT!
AFA: What was your favorite game to play as a child?
RF: Kick the can. Am I dating myself? The entire neighborhood would play once it started to get dark, and there were a lot of us!
AFA: What fictional world or place would you like to visit?
RF: I want to hang out on the set of “Friends”. They seem to have such fun together.
AFA: If you had a time machine, would you go back in time or into the future?
RF: I would go back to college and major in Fine Art, rather than Vocational Rehabilitation.
AFA: If you could be a season, which would you be and why?
RF: Spring. It is such a fresh time of year with flowers blooming, birds singing, green hills…beautiful colors!
Art-related:
AFA: What was the subject matter and style of the very first painting you sold?
RF: It was an abstract cityscape and I really had a difficult time letting it go, but my wise son told me to “sell it, you will have another favorite.” So true.
AFA: What are you presently inspired by – are there particular things you are reading, listening to or looking at to influence your work?
RF: Nature is most prominent as an influencing factor in what I paint. I am attracted to color, texture and movement, which are all integral in nature. I never suffer from a lack of inspiration or ideas as art surrounds me. I frequently have so many concepts floating around in my brain, that I don’t know what to paint first. That is why my portfolio is so diverse.
AFA: Of all of your series, which is your favorite?
RF: Whatever series I am currently working on, is my new favorite.
AFA: Do you listen to music while painting?
RF: Yes. I frequently switch it up, but I often listen to Folk and Indie.
AFA: How does your personal history work its way into your work? How are YOU reflected in your current work?
RF: Art has always been a part of my life, however, the medium has evolved. I find that my previous work with textiles, art metals, mosaics and other mediums have influenced the way in which I approach painting.
“I love it when my work takes the viewer on a personal journey of meaning and discovery. My contemporary abstract paintings, filled with color and light, allow collectors to be transported into a world of beauty and intrigue.”
“I perceive myself as a creative scientist, experimenting with color, tools and techniques, finding personal meaning and discoveries in the process. My mixed media approach to abstract acrylic painting reflects my playful approach to life.” ~Ruth Fromstein
